The battle of the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League’s two undefeated teams turned out to be a one sided contest at the weekend, with Carisbrook running out comfortable victors over Talbot.
Both sides entered the match undefeated, but the Redbacks were out to prove they are still premiership material.
Carisbrook opened up full of running and Lachlan Edwards was dominating possession out of the middle.
Ash Munari was on the end of an Edwards pass just two minutes in and the star forward kicked the opening goal of the game.
Another four goals in succession had the Redbacks up and about including an inspiring goal from Angus McKinna who ran off half back, handballed long to a team mate, ran forward and took the ball back and goaled on the run.
The Hawks found it difficult to break the defensive lines and eventually a rare turnover by a Redback defender allowed a Talbot goal, when Matthew Bond marked in the goal square just before quarter time. Carisbrook were in the lead by 30 points at the first break.
The Redbacks maintained the upper hand in the second quarter when Steve Patterson received a pass from Ash Munari for his second goal of the game, and then Harry Butler took a high flying mark and kicked truly.
