RAR film night to mark Refugee Week

Rural Australians for Refugees Maryborough Branch members Carole Hart, Val Park and Jeanne Hart are calling for community members to come along to a documentary screening fundraiser this Sunday at the Paramount Theatre.

An important documentary showcasing the true stories of refugees is coming to Marybor- ough this weekend as part of Refugee Week.

The Rural Australians for Refugees Maryborough Branch (RAR) will be hosting a screening of the documentary, The Staging Post, this Sunday to raise funds and awareness for refugees.

RAR is an informal network of regional groups supporting and advocating for asylum seekers and refugees and Maryborough RAR spokesperson Jeanne Hart said the group was approached by the The Staging Post’s producer and director, Jolyon Hoff, to run a screening.

“We’re showing it this week because June 14-28 is Refugee Week, but we also always have a Sunday fundraiser like a film or guest speaker as part of the week,” she said.

The Staging Post follows two Afghan Hazara refugees, Muzafar and Khadim, who became stuck in Indonesia while attempting to reach Australia.

The screening will take place at the Maryborough Paramount Theatre this Sunday, June 16 at 2 pm.

Tickets are $15 and are available for purchase at the theatre.
