Maryborough residents will have the unique opportunity to help influence changes to Victoria’s mental health system with a public hearing scheduled to take place in town next month.
Maryborough is the only town outside of Melbourne set to play host to a day of public hearings as part of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s mental health system in July.
The hearing comes thanks to a joint letter from Central Goldfields and Pyrenees shire councils, Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS) and Maryborough Education Centre.
Central Goldfields Shire CEO Lucy Roffey said with a high rate of mental illness in the region, the group felt it was imperative to secure a hearing in Maryborough.
