Maryborough knew the battle with Kyneton would be tough, but it couldn’t have predicted the 50-all draw that resulted on Saturday afternoon.
The Pies claimed a narrow 17-13 lead over the Tigers at the end of the first quarter, starting the match in great form.
Kyneton was hungry for victory after a tough loss the round before and came back in the second with ferocity, shooting 15 goals while keeping Maryborough to 10 and holding a one-goal lead at the halftime whistle.
The Magpies knew they had to regain control before their competitors got too far in front,
outscoring Kyneton 13-11 in the crucial third quarter, similarly taking a wafer thin one-goal lead into the final term.
