Despite beating South Bendigo in round one, Maryborough’s A grade netball side couldn’t quite get the job done on Saturday lucking out by six goals.
The Pies only claimed their round one victory over the Bloods by eight goals and they knew Saturday would be a tough task.
Maryborough sat at a two-goal deficit at quarter time, but fought extremely hard to even the score and sit at 25-all by halftime.
Starting the third term with a fresh slate, the Swans were scared into action and successfully clawed back a lead, this time leading the Pies by five goals with one quarter to go.
The board read 36-41 at the start of the final term and despite Maryborough’s fight and a 13-goal surge, the visitors eventually ran away with a 49-55 win.
South’s zone defence particularly in the final half was incredibly hard to penetrate, with Maryborough often getting stuck in defensive throw ins and allowing the visitors some important turnovers.
