Local weaver’s sustainable works to go on show

Maryborough Saori weaver Cathy Tobin is travelling to Alice Springs to take part in the 2019 Sustainable Couture Fashion Show this week.

Maryborough Saori textile weaver Cathy Tobin is setting off on an adventure to Alice Springs later this month to celebrate all things fashion and recycled.

Ms Tobin has been invited to Alice Springs to participate in the Sustainable Couture Fashion Show which sees designers and fabric artists showcase a unique approach to recycling, refashioning and reconstructing textiles.

After only taking up Saori weaving, which is a freeform weaving style, four years ago Ms Tobin said she’s delighted to be taking part in the event.

“I’m really excited to be a part of the show and to be invited so soon after embarking on this business,” she said.

“One of the women who started the event was visiting a relative in Castlemaine and saw my stall at the market and asked if I’d like to be a part of the show.

“It’ll be great to be able to engage with other people who think the same way and get some new ideas.”
