One shock result has rocked the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League’s A grade netball competition during the completion of round five at the weekend.
After a big loss to Carisbrook the week before, Harcourt headed to Trentham on Saturday and most had probably expected another loss.
But the Lions had different plans and ended up toppling the reigning premiers 34-43.
Harcourt took an early two-goal lead at the end of the first and doubled down in the second to sit five goals ahead at the halftime break.
Some fresh legs in the Lions’ ring allowed them to maintain this margin by the end of the third and despite nine missed shots at goal in the fourth, the Lions were still able to finish nine goals ahead.
Peggy De Spirit claimed best on court for Trentham in its second loss since 2017 while Brooke Healy and Sharna Ford battled hard in the midcourt for the home side, making up for the absence of Jasmine Coleman.
Attackers Tayla Williams, Stacey Mitchell and Carly Wilkins were Harcourt’s driving force.
The result between Maryborough Rovers and Avoca was nowhere near as close, with the Bulldogs claiming a 33-goal win to remain the only undefeated side in the competition.
