Over 400 golfers tee off for 106th tournament

The Queen’s Birthday long weekend saw more than 200 golfers from around Australia flock to the Maryborough Golf Club for the 106th ADROIT Insurance Annual June Tournament.

This year there were almost 450 entries from more than 210 different golfers and over 40 clubs represented throughout the competition which spanned from Thursday, June 6 to Monday, June 10.

The Women’s Three Ball Better Ball kicked off the competition on Thursday.

With a score of 45 points Ruth Le Nevez, Janne Maggs and Jennifer Welsby were the winning team on a countback from the runners up, Julie Guiney, Shirley Rodda and Mary Davis.

Jean O’Halloran was nearest the nine on the second hole, Elizabeth Fenton on the sixth hole, and Phillipa Whitford was closest on the 18th hole.

Ball winners with 43 points were Doris Jennings, Brenda Savy and Phillipa Whitford.

Barb Willis, Susan Sloan and Frances Fraser were the lucky chaos ball winning team.

Friday’s events were Four Ball Better Balls for women and men, with big fields enjoying marvellous conditions.

Maureen Morley and Anne Kolln won the women’s event with 42 points and the runners up were Janne Maggs and Ruth Le Nevez with 41 points.

The ball winners were Jan Berry and Helen Farnsworth, and Maree Bandt and Lyn Howell, with 39 points.
