Maryborough suffers loss to Kangaroo Flat

Eliza Roughead passes to Jordan Macilwain during Maryboroughʼs close clash with Kyneton earlier this month. The Pies werenʼt as successful last weekend, going down to Kangaroo Flat by 21 goals.

Maryborough was handed a damaging 21-goal loss by Kangaroo Flat at the weekend, knocking the Pies down to seventh place on the ladder.

The Pies knew the weekend would be difficult, with the Kangaroos finishing last season in the competition’s top four.

The Pies sat just seven goals behind at quarter time and a fight back in the second saw them narrow the gap by one with a halftime score of 23-17.

The game was blown out in the third quarter with Flat shooting 18 goals while keeping Maryborough to 10, securing the home side a comfortable lead with just one term to go.

The Magpies managed just nine goals in the final quarter, while the Roos put away 16, putting the nail in the coffin of a 57-36 loss, Maryborough’s fourth for the year.

Sitting now at a win-loss ratio of 2-4, the Magpies have slipped down the A grade ladder from sixth to seventh, just two ahead of the bottom of the rung.
