After a very close start, Harcourt was able to eclipse Newstead at the weekend, defeating the Roos by 16 goals.
A tied score of nine-all at the first quarter break hinted for both sides that it would be a tough day on the court.
Harcourt was able to break away in the second, adding 14 goals to Newstead’s nine, awarding the Lions a five-goal halftime lead.
Efforts were consistent in the third quarter with the Lions putting through another 14 goals while Newstead managed 10 through a slightly altered ring duo.
Harcourt drove the win home in the final quarter, again shooting 14 goals while keeping the Roos to a painful seven, awarding the hosts a substantial win.
For the Lions, centre Stacey Mitchell led the pace, while goalie Chloe Brownscombe, who shot 38 of the side’s goals for the day, and keeper Jess Lord were highly influential.
