Tough slog ahead for Maryborough

Chris Freeman prepares to take a late bump after disposing of the ball.

Maryborough is set to take on second from the top of the ladder side, Gisborne this weekend in round six of the Bendigo Football Netball League’s 2019 season.

After a weekend off due to interleague, the Pies will have to battle on through this Saturday’s game at Gardiner Reserve.

The weekend off could’ve done some good for the Magpies who will need to be at their strongest to take on the Bulldogs.

The inclusion of Lachlan and Stewart Crameri for this weekend will be welcomed by the black and white, both proving themselves highly influential in the games that they’ve been available.

Lachlan Butler and Matt Bilton have also been named for the weekend and should keep the Pies in the contest.

Gisborne has claimed four from five wins this season, all by a minimum of 89 points.

The Dogs demolished Castlemaine by 93 points in round one while the Magpies only managed a 15-point win over Maine the following week.

Gisborne toppled South Bendigo by 97 points last round while Maryborough lost to the same side by 32 points, leaving Maryborough’s prospects very bleak heading into the weekend.
