Pies suffer heavy defeat against Bulldogs

Maryboroughʼs Chloe Egan sends a pass across the court last round.

Maryborough knew the clash with 2018 A grade grand final runners up Gisborne would be tough, but couldn’t have expected the 45-goal flogging that unfolded on Saturday.

After lucking out in the big dance last season, the Bulldogs have come back to the court with a vengeance this season and completely ran over Maryborough’s powerful A grade side.

A score of 14-6 at quarter time in the home team’s favour was not ideal for the Magpies, but didn’t allude to the following three quarters.

A massive 23-goal quarter to Maryborough’s 10 saw the Bulldogs claim a 21-goal lead at the main break.

Moving Bella Westbrook from wing defence into goal keeper, allowed the Pies to stem the Bulldogs temporarily in the third,

keeping them to 15 goals while Maryborough goalies Jordan Macilwain and Keely Hare were able to swindle eight together.
