Maryborough claimed a round five win by the skin of its teeth on Saturday, coming out just two goals ahead of Golden Square.
The Pies were expected to claim victory over the Bulldogs who are still yet to win a game this season, but by a much higher margin.
Maryborough took a first quarter lead of seven goals and luckily so as it rode that lead right through until the final whistle.
Square matched Borough’s second term score of 12 goals, leaving them still behind by seven at the main break.
With a plethora of players to choose from, a few changes in the midcourt and goals gave the home side the boost it needed to maintain its shooting through quarters three and four.
Following suit, the Pies moved Chloe Egan from the ring out into the mid and slotted young Bella Westbrook into goal.
But with Square only missing one shot at goal in the entire last two quarters, Maryborough defenders Westbrook and Eliza Roughead had limited opportunities to slow Golden’s roll.
