Sunday’s Mother’s Day clash was played at Navarre between the Grasshoppers and Maryborough Rovers, with the home side securing a comfortable 80-point victory.
It was one-way traffic in the first quarter as the Grasshoppers peppered the goals in, and if not for inaccuracy could easily have been a 10-goal quarter as Navarre dominated possession from the centre stoppages.
It took Rovers 14 minutes to post their first score for the game when coach Brendon Hedger marked in the goal square from the Rovers’ first forward entry.
Monty Reeves dominated possession in the back half for Rovers in a very scrappy second term as he continually sent the Pies into attack, but they could not capitalise as Navarre scored the only two goals for the term through Fowkes and Riley Bibby.
It was a more open style of play in the third term and the sides were goal for goal.
Hedger scored Rovers’ second goal of the game when Blake Dawson kicked to the goal square and the big man was able to take a strong contested mark.
