“One hundred percent committed to footy” is how local Liam Latch describes himself and by making his TAC Cup debut at the weekend, he’s one step closer to his ultimate dream.
Latch got the call up for the Bendigo Pioneers on Wednesday night and pulled on the jumper for the first time on Saturday in a clash with the Sandringham Dragons in Echuca.
The Pioneers held a 13-point lead over the Dragons heading into the final term, but were outscored 30- 13, awarding Sandringham a four- point win.
After training with the Pioneers for months, Latch said the game was “great” despite a disappointing loss.
“It was a good game, just unfortunate that we couldn’t get the win,” he said.
“I went to training on Tuesday night and they told me that I was going to get my opportunity that weekend.
“I was very happy, I don’t know how to explain the feeling. It was a really long and tough preseason and to get the call up shows that it paid off.”
Latch previously played football at Newstead in the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League, appearing in both the side’s 17s and senior team, but made the switch to the Bendigo Football Netball League (BFNL) this season.
