Lady Redbacks suffer defeats in round five

The Carisbrook Lady Redbacks head into round six with optimism after several tough weeks of heavy losses. Elise Mottram gets the jump on her opponent in round four against Gisborne

All three Carisbrook Lady Redbacks sides went down last round, but prospects look better heading into round six this weekend.

Under lights on Friday night, both the under 18s and the senior Redback sides were crushed by powerful Redan outfits at Western Oval.

The under 18s kicked off the Indigenous round double-header with a 6.10 (42) to 3.4 (22) loss.

Brook led at the first break, kicking 1.1 while the Lions kicked just three minor scores.

The Redbacks headed into the third 17 points down, but a valiant effort saw them add 2.3 to their tally, sitting just three points behind with one quarter to go.

Unfortunately for Carisbrook, it couldn’t back up its third-quarter effort with Redan storming out in front in the final term adding three goals while Brook added none at all.

In a best on ground performance, Paige Scott put two through the big sticks and Olivia Butler snagged one.

The senior side was then pummelled by Redan, losing 13.24 (102) to 1.2 (8).

The loss was expected, as Redan’s premiership winning 2018 form has carried into this year with the side undefeated four games into its season.
