A brew-tiful collection of tea, coffee and cakes will fill the Clunes Senior Citizens Hall next week as locals put the kettle on for a good cause.
The Clunes MadChatters Club and Clunes Senior Citizens Club are teaming up for the first time this year to raise funds for the national cancer fundraiser Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.
The idea to hold the event was sparked by the MadChatters Club, which was created two years ago as a way for Clunes residents to get together for a social afternoon with coffee and cake.
The club’s Susan McVeigh said she was inspired to hold an Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea event by her and her fellow club members’ experiences with cancer.
“All of us in the group have been touched by cancer in some way,” she said.
“My mother and brother both passed away due to cancer and that’s what gave me the inspiration to hold an event. It’s also just a great cause.”
Funds raised through Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea will help to support cancer patients and fund cancer research and prevention programs.
The Clunes event will run from 10 am to 2 pm at the Senior Citizens Club on Friday, May 24.
Entry is $5 per person which covers tea, coffee and food.
