Although the official Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League (MCDFNL) 2019 season launch is still one week away, Maldon and Harcourt are dusting off their uniforms a week early for a Good Friday match.
All sides will face one another this Friday from 9 am, finishing with the senior football and A grade netball at 2.35 pm at Bill Woodfull Recreation Reserve.
Maldon’s senior football side are under the leadership of former player Brendan Shepherd and after a less than ideal 2018, the atmosphere around the Bombers has improved for this season.
A number of former players return to the fold, along with a few new recruits, including a couple of players from Harcourt who have crossed over in David Wilson and Kyle Gillingham, which should add a bit of spice to the clash.
Harcourt are again to be led by Paul Chaplin and Sam Gale after a top four finish last season.
There has also been plenty of activity on the clearance list for the Lions, including a couple of
players from Newstead in Kaleb McBride and Kyle Hamilton, and of course the key recruit of the summer is the signing of former AFL star Barry Hall, who is not set to appear for the Lions this Friday.
After just scraping into finals in a season plagued with injuries, Maldon’s A grade netball side will return to the court this year under the instruction of playing coach Sarah Lovel.
