Former AFL star lends a hand to Creek

Campbells Creek Football Netball Club is getting a helping hand from former AFL star Russell Robertson both on and off-field this season.

After a tough slog in 2018, Creek has struggled to fill its sides for this year and with many teams still undecided just two weeks out from the season, Robertson has extended his hand to give the club a boost.

Robertson made his mark as a prolific scorer for the Melbourne Football Club through the early 2000s, claiming the club’s leading goalkicker award four times over.

Campbells Creek senior football coach Phil Hawkes said the club is grateful to have “Robbo” on board to help when he can.

“He’s certainly our biggest recruit for the year, he’ll be playing round one and probably more than that as well,” he said.

Off-field, Robertson alongside infamous sports agent Ricky Nixon will host a sportsman’s  night during round one to raise money for the Magpies.

“It should be a good night to have a bit of a laugh and support the club,” Hawkes said.
