New $10 million Powercor depot officially open for business

Powercor field operations manager for the western region Anthony Perkins, CEO Tim Rourke and local employees celebrated the opening of the businessʼ new $10 million depot last week.

Power provider Powercor ’s new $10 million “landmark” depot is officially open for business and is set to provide locals with new employment opportunities and better services.

The large-scale Chaplins Road site was completed over nine months last year from April to December before it was officially opened last week, and will service areas as far as Moonambel and Charlton.

Powercor CEO Tim Rourke said he’s “thrilled” the site is up and running and that Maryborough is a location Powercor has “always considered” for setting up a base.

“Maryborough is a big city in our network and it’s right between Bendigo and Ballarat so it made a lot of sense to set up here,” he said.

“It’s a great location for us, there’s a lot of work that will be here for a long time and we know that having our own workforce means we can provide better services.

“It’s great that we’ve been able to build a new facility and hopefully it gives people a lot of comfort that we’ll be around for a long time in Maryborough. It’s great we can invest in the local community and give a bit back.”
