Lions support MEC students with $1650 donation

Maryborough Lions Janet Regan and president Lorraine Parker presented a cheque to (centre) MEC principal David Sutton for the school’s SALT Program.

Maryborough Education Centre (MEC) students will be supported by a health and wellbeing program thanks to a generous donation from the Maryborough Lions Club.

The Sport and Life Training (SALT) program, which will be delivered to year five, six and seven students, aims to provide education around a range of issues that young people face including mental health, drugs and alcohol, social media, peer pressure, decision making, bulling and responsibility.

Maryborough Lions Club donated a $1650 cheque to the school last Thursday so the SALT program can be introduced to local students. Maryborough Lions Club president Lorraine Parker said the club feels that young people deserve to be educated in these areas to help them be the best that they can be.

“The club feels that the young people of today need to be given the opportunity to be offered these programs to enable them to be mindful and respectful not only to those around them, but to themselves as well,” she said.
