Fresh start for Avoca Shire Turf Club

Avoca Shire Turf Club manager Kate Kirkpatrick and president Barry Slater are set to celebrate a new era of country racing in Avoca next weekend.

Avoca’s March race meeting marks the beginning of a new era for the Avoca Shire Turf Club.

In recent years, the ANZAC Day Races have been a fixture for the club, but this year they’re set to start fresh with a new race day on Saturday, March 23, something club president Barry Slater said he’s looking forward to.

“While the ANZAC Day Races will always remain a special part of our club’s history with many memorable days, it also came with its challenges, particularly when it fell on a week day with getting patrons to the track,” he said.

“We are very excited to launch a new look race day to our members, patrons and sponsors. I’d like to see as many people here as possible, it’s going to be a good day for it.”

Gates open for the meet at 11 am on Saturday, March 23 and admission starts at $15 for adults. For more information, head to
