Dunolly the side to beat as all three teams head into season deciders

Golf Blue skipper Kort Gay sends a shot down the green in Saturdayʼs
preliminary final against Highland Tartan.

All eyes will be on Dunolly this weekend as all three of its Saturday pennant sides have once again advanced through to the Goldfields Bowls Division’s grand final weekend after successful preliminary finals.

Six teams went head-to-head last Saturday, vying for a spot in their respective division’s grand final.

Dunolly had already secured a place in division one and its division two and three sides both toppled their competitors on Saturday meaning all three teams will represent the club in the grand final for the second year in a row.

Highland Tartan will meet Dunolly Blue in the division one season decider for the fourth year in a row after a 77-61 win over Golf Blue on Saturday.

Tartan conceded one rink on Saturday as Golf skipper Kort Gay eclipsed Garry Coburn by 13 shots.

Greg Shay and Brian Daly were able to make up for the deficit however on their respective rinks.

Shay claimed a 24-14 victory over Kevin Prime while Daly delivered a shattering 31-12 defeat to Rob Barby’s rink.

Golf Blue had a mixed season, claiming seven wins and eight losses, but the side never dropped out of the top four on the ladder.

The division one grand final will be played at Newstead, while both division two and three sides will play the Maryborough Highland Society.

A decision on whether the finals need to be postponed due to heat will be announced tonight and should the heat rule be enacted, all grand finals will be played the following Saturday.
