A true underdog story unfolded at the weekend, when Clunes fought back from seven wickets down and at a 70-run deficit to claim the 2018-19 Maryborough District Cricket Association’s (MDCA) two-day A grade premiership over hot favourites, Colts Phelans.
Colts started its grand final campaign in solid fashion on Saturday, batting first and finishing all out for 156. Branden Wagstaff and UK import
James Copeland were first up, but Wagstaff (5) lasted just eight runs before he became the first of Sam Williams’ victims for the day.
Copeland then held alongside Mitch Bench (1), Will Collicoat (0) and Rhys Egan (0), with little impact on the side’s total.
