Avoca goes back-to-back with two-day victory

Maryborough District Cricket Associationʼs 2018-19 A reserve two-day premiership team, Avoca — (back) Ben Morganti, Blake Salmon, Craig Salmon, Bill Drummond (secretary), Anthony Brown, Jason Hunt, Matt Drummond and Nathan Holland. (front) Josh Thompson, Josh Morganti, Lachlan Morganti (captain), Gav Hicks (vice captain) and Nathan Lester.

As predicted, Avoca has gone back-to-back by easily claiming the 2018-19 Maryborough District Cricket Association’s (MDCA) two-day A reserve premiership with a 149-run defeat of Colts Phelans.

Despite losing its first two batsmen for peanuts, the Dogs went on to put up a hard-to-beat total of 9/222 on Saturday.

Appearing third in the order, leading MDCA batsman Gavan Hicks (59) kicked off Avoca’s scoring with an individual half century and an 86-run partnership with skipper Lachlan Morganti.

Hicks was claimed LBW by Chris Watts, making way for Josh Morganti who managed a 12-run contribution before he was bowled by Adam Balzan.

Captain Morganti (45) fell shortly after, claimed by Watts five runs short of a half-ton of his own.
