The Maryborough District Cricket Association’s (MDCA) senior Kenmac Shield team finished their representative season on a high with a three-run victory over the Grenville Cricket Association.

Meeting at Beaufort earlier this month, Grenville and the MDCA were in competition for the Sharp Shield.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, the MDCA lost skipper Ben Hoban immediately, but Sam Bartlett and Branden Wagstaff were able to settle in and build the score.

Although the running between wickets wasn’t always what it could’ve been, the pair took the score to 36 before Bartlett was claimed by Patrick Graham.

Colts pair Wagstaff and Mitchell Bench took the score to 45 before both fell at that total.

Avoca all rounder Lachy Morganti and English import James Copeland took the score to 67 before Copeland failed to keep a pull shot down and holed out to mid on.

Beaufort captain Shannon Brown joined Morganti and together they added 64 runs in the best partnership of the match.

Morganti eventually fell for 49 which triggered a collapse that saw the MDCA lose their last six wickets for just six runs.

A target of 137 confronted Grenville in the reply.
