Highland Tartan and Golf Blue go head-to-head to decide who advances to season decider

Greg McHugh of Dunolly Blue measures for shot during his sideʼs semi-final win over Highland Tartan on Satruday.

Highland Tartan and Golf Blue will face off this Saturday in a fight for a place in the division one grand final up against reigning premiers Dunolly Blue.

Dunolly has fought its way straight into the grand final with a two-shot win over Highland Tartan at the weekend.

The win came from Barry Cann’s 21-18 rink victory over shield representative Greg Shay and Alan Weir ’s four-shot win over Burt Spencer.

Highland narrowed Dunolly’s margin with help from Brian Daly’s rink who defeated Greg Dobbin’s 29- 24, but it wasn’t enough to claim the overall win and a golden ticket straight into the big dance.

Tartan will now meet Golf Blue in the last final of the season, after Golf was able to topple Talbot Gold in semi finals.

The 77-66 win over a strong side like Talbot shows just how serious the Golf side is despite a season of mixed results.

Golf won just eight of its 15 home and away games and dropped out of the top four for several weeks mid way through the season, but was out in force at the weekend.

With finals on the line and each team at its most desperate, one rink ended in a tie with 20-all the score, but Golf skippers Bob Barby and Kevin Prime won their rinks by two and nine shots respectively to claim the most important win for the side so far.
