Big total needed for Pies to knock down Colts

Rhys Egan puts four runs on the board for Colts Phelans with this powerful shot at the weekend. Colts will return to the pitch this Saturday to finish its two-day
game with Clunes.

Clunes is preparing for a tough reply innings this Saturday after Colts Phelans was able to put up a total of 172 runs last weekend.

The result of this round’s match between the top two sides will decide who leads the ladder heading into round 10, the final home and away round of the season.

With this in mind and Colts having sat atop the ladder for a majority of the season, the Magpies will be on the hunt for a statement win this Saturday.

Clunes was able to bowl the entire Colts side out in under 60 overs last weekend, but not before Colts made a pretty hefty run total thanks to big performances from James Copeland (64) and Will Collicoat (47) especially.

This weekend the Magpies will need to look to its top batsmen to outscore and outlast Colts.

Colts are notriously brutal with the ball in hand, having already claimed 97 wickets in just eight games of cricket this season.

Captain Dayne Baker and Richie Clark currently lead the league for the most wickets taken this season, both having claimed 27 wickets.

Followed by another Colt, Nick Henderson, who has claimed 20 wickets at an average of 13.25.

However, these bowlers will have to contend with the likes of Mark Allen and Mark Jenkin this weekend.

Allen has made 239 runs for the Pies this season, while Jenkin has been responsible for 176, which combined is an impressive 49 percent of the side’s total runs.
