Owls face tough first game of 2019

Maryboroughʼs Troy Hubble is stumped by James Copeland during the sideʼs clash with Colts Phelans last month.

Current ladder-leader Clunes is set to face a tough competitor when it meets reigning two-day premiers, Maryborough, in the first round of cricket for 2019.

After lucking out in the one-day final, but finishing 2018 in the top spot due to premiership points, the Magpies have a lot to prove in 2019.

The side is yet to prove itself in a two-day capacity however, granted their first two-day win of the season last month by forfeit.

Clunes last met this weekend’s competitors back in round five where they handed the Owls their second loss of the season while seeing themselves into the one-day grand final.

Although Maryborough’s one-day portion of the season didn’t end in a grand final appearance, the Owls made a definite improvement from the 2017 one-day season where they won just two from six one-day games.
