Bella Westbrook is well on her way to realising her ultimate basketball goal after returning from a 16-day representative tour of America.
The Maryborough teen was selected as one of just 11 Victorian girls and the only Victoria Country squad member to go to the US with Basketball Victoria on tour in December last year.
The Victorian squad played nine games all up, including competing in the She Got Game classic in Washington DC.
During the classic, Victoria’s squad was able to topple both TPLS Christian Academy 61-52 and Life Centre New Jersey’s side by just one point.
Westbrook said the experience helped cement her hoop dreams of playing college basketball in America when she gets older.
Before the trip, Westbrook said she “wasn’t sure” whether that was what she wanted, but admits that four days before she landed in Australia, she called her mum to let her know that was her plan.
“I really liked playing in America and getting to know what their style of basketball is like,” she said.
“Their style of play is a lot more physical and some of the rules are different.
“The first couple of games it was hard because of the different rules, but we played nine games and we won eight of them in the end.
