Woman dies during Christmas Eve crash

A woman has died following a tragic car accident in Mount Lonarch on Christmas Eve, which saw a section of Amphitheatre Road closed for nearly 10 hours while emergency services worked on the scene.

A woman has died during a tragic car accident near Lexton on Christmas Eve.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Amphitheatre Road, Mount Lonarch at around 7 pm after a white Toyota sedan reportedly lost control and crashed into a tree.

The female passenger died at the scene.

A 21-year-old male passenger and 57-year-old male driver were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the cause of the crash is yet to be determined and investigations are ongoing.

Maryborough SES Unit Con- troller Jesse Wright said emergency services were called after 7 pm.

“Maryborough SES was called at about 7.19 pm, where it was reported there was a fatality,” he said.

“SES members provided lighting and waited for the Major Collisions Investigation Unit to arrive and start their investigations.”

The road was closed until around 4 am while emergency services remained on scene.
