Owls shock Colts with two-day victory

Coltsʼ Will Collicoat adds six runs to his total on his way to a half century during his side’s clash with Maryborough at the weekend

Colts Phelans have been dealt their maiden loss of the 2018-19 season after Maryborough bowled the entire side out on Saturday to win by 28 runs.

After setting the total to beat at 183 runs the week before, the Owls were on the defensive on Saturday as the Colts took to the crease with bat in hand.

Branden Wagstaff and James Copeland were the first up for Colts, but could only amass a total of 13 runs before Wagstaff (8) was claimed by Jake Postle.

His replacement Mitch Bench lasted just two runs before he too was sent packing by Postle.

Young Will Collicoat was unnerved by Maryborough’s quick dismissals, but his partner Copeland (2) was claimed by Postle shortly after his introduction.

Rhys Egan was bowled for a duck by the ever-reliable Martin Dell, Dell wasted no time in claiming Egan’s replacement, running Tarkyn Balzan out for zero.

Aaron Balzan held steadfast alongside Collicoat as his total rose, and managed to contribute 11 runs before he was claimed by Sam Bartlett.

Rhys Wagstaff was next up with the bat and he was able to help Collicoat nudge the Colts into triple figures before Bartlett came for the prolific runscorer.
