Clunes out for redemption in first game of two-day after grand final loss

Clunes batsman Mark Allen edges a drive into the slips cordon to end his day during the Magpiesʼ one-day grand final loss to Colts at the weekend.

After a disappointing one-win one-day season, Laanecoorie Dunolly will take on Clunes this Saturday in the first round of two-day cricket for season 2018- 19.

Laane will look to redeem itself in the two-day portion of the season, but its first competitor will be no easy task.

Clunes heads into its first two-day match off the back of a crushing loss to Colts Phelans in the one-day grand final last Saturday.

For the fifth time since 2014, the Magpies came off second best in a grand final clash, leaving them dissatisfied once again.

The Pies are sure to be chasing victory in two-day cricket after several years as the bridesmaid, but never the bride.

Unlike Clunes, Laane tasted premiership glory not too long ago when it claimed the 2017-18 one-day cup this time last year.

One season on, in a fall from grace Laane has found itself on the bottom of the A grade ladder with just one win so far this season.

Despite sporting one of the most influential batsmen in the competition as its captain, Laane has struggled to be competitive.
