Avoca artist comes home for 2019 exhibition launch

Avoca-born Julianne Holland will have her artwork on display from January 5 through to 28 at Avocaʼs Gallery 127.

Avoca born and raised Julianne Holland has returned home after 10 years to celebrate the launch of her artwork exhibition.

Living away from home for the past 10 years, Ms Holland has travelled the world and worked as a parks ranger and conservationist, which has informed her art.

“I really love getting out in the natural world,” she said.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to see a lot of Australia and the world through work.

“My art is inspired by natural landscapes, especially the beauty of the natural world.

“I think that a lot of this beauty comes from the harshness of the land around us too.” Ms Holland studied a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Federation University before becoming a park ranger, which she has been for six years.

She said studying art and becoming an artist has always been on the cards.

“All I did as a little girl was draw,” she said.

“I have a memory from when I was about four or five that I told my aunt I was going to be an artist when I grew up.”
