Maryborough’s Ruby Rothman is now ranked number one in the state for her birth year and as a result has been accepted into the main draw of the Australian Championships next month.
The 14-year-old Maryborough Tennis Centre (MTC) player is currently ranked first in Victoria in her age group for singles tennis and fourth overall for both singles and doubles.
Rothman also boasts a Tennis Australia ranking of 355 in open women and said she is very excited ahead of the championships in December.
“It’s an international tournament so I’m pretty happy. I’ve played in the championships a couple of times before, but I’m top age now so I have more of a chance,” she said.
“The furthest I’ve ever made it was second round because the competition is just that tough.
“Last time I was against the second seed so I wasn’t very happy with that, but hopefully this year with my ranking I’ll have better luck.
“At the start of the year I was sitting at around seventh in singles for Victoria. I got direct entry because of how my ranking has jumped.”
