Mixed bag of results for Lady Blazers

Keely Hare fends off her opponent during the Lady Blazersʼ clash with the Swan Hill Flyers on Saturday night.

The Lady Blazers have gathered a mixed bag of results in round four, with a very close four-point win over the Swan Hill Lady Flyers and a gruelling loss to the Myrtleford Saints.

The double-header weekend started well for the Blazers who toppled the Flyers 78-74 on Saturday night.

Swan Hill was the first to make a score in the first quarter, but the Blazers weren’t behind for long with Keely Hare, Claire Blower and Maggie Tranter contributing to Maryborough’s 22-13 lead at quarter time.

Swan Hill was fired up in the second, adding 22 points to the board while keeping Maryborough to just 11 points, allowing the Flyers to take the lead into the third.

A nervous Maryborough sat two points behind on 33 points at the start of the third quarter, but a two pointer from Jordan Macilwain balanced the score to 35-all with plenty of time on the clock.

Continued scoring by Macilwain, Hare and Blower throughout the quarter wasn’t enough to regain control of the lead however, and it looked bleak for the Blazers who again trailed by two points at the end of the term.

Chloe Egan started the final quarter in style, balancing the scores with a two-point shot with nine minutes for Maryborough to gain control of the game.

Swan Hill and Maryborough went shot-for-shot, shooting twos but never taking a solid lead.
