Colts hand Maryborough first loss of the season

Mitch Bench sends one to the fence for Colts during his match.

Colts Phelans have earned the top spot on the Maryborough District Cricket Association’s (MDCA) A grade ladder after an impressive 8/164 to 9/57 win over a dominant Maryborough side.

Colts are now the only A grade side who are yet to lose a game after four rounds, handing the Owls their first loss of the season on Saturday.

Colts elected to bat first after winning the toss, sending Branden Wagstaff and James Copeland to the crease with bat in hand.

Copeland (9) was the first to go, bowled out by Martin Dell with 31 the sides’ total score.

Will Collicoat was next in line, but Wagstaff could only hold on temporarily before he was sent packing by Kaine Bodey.

Mitch Bench (3) was also claimed by Dell shortly thereafter, but Collicoat held well against new partner Rhys Egan.

Egan and Collicoat were able to produce a 75-run partnership, pushing Colts’ score into triple figures, before Egan (20) was claimed by Mick Malik.
