Saturday’s Maryborough District Cricket Association (MDCA) A grade one-day grand final looks to be a battle between the undefeated and the underdogs.
After a successful rebuild over the off-season, Colts Phelans have taken the competition by storm, finishing the one-day season with five from five wins and as a result head into this weekend’s one-day cup against Clunes as favourites.
Clunes are certainly no stranger to grand final pressure, having made either the one or two-day final for the past four seasons.
Despite four grand final appearances since 2014, the Magpies’ trophy cabinet is terribly empty as the side has come off second best on all occasions. Clunes heads into this weekend’s match after it successfully toppled a very strong Maryborough side earlier this month.
Magpie skipper Aidan Thompson said while Colts were able to take them down during the season, they are yet to face Clunes at full capacity.
“We didn’t have a full side in when we last versed Colts. We had a lot of players come up from the A reserve that week, but this weekend we’ll be at full strength,” Thompson said.
