Perfect start for Maryborough Blazers

Maryborough Blazersʼ Brady Neill shoots at goal during Saturdayʼs match against Mildura Heat.

The Maryborough Blazers have had a perfect start to the 2018-19 Country Basketball League season, now the only team in the North West Division to go three-from-three after two wins at the weekend.

The Blazers currently sit at the top of the ladder and are yet to concede a game this season.

Round two saw Maryborough take on the Mildura Heat on Saturday night and the Echuca Pirates on Sunday afternoon.

Saturday night’s eventual 74-65 win over Mildura was too close for comfort right up until the last minute of the final quarter.

With just 50 seconds on the clock, the Blazers led 70-65 before Matt Johnston and coach Brady Neill expanded the score to the final total of 74-65.

The Heat were hot on the Blazers’ heels all night, often sitting less than a few points away from the lead.

But thanks to a high scoring night from both Johnston and Neill and the consistency of Harrison Butler, the Blazers held the lead for all 48 minutes of the game.
