Maryborough has started its 2018-19 season with a 14-run win over last year’s one-day premiers, Laanecoorie Dunolly in round one of the Maryborough District Cricket Association’s A grade season.
After winning just two one-day matches last season, the Owls were eager to prove themselves worthy of a victory over Laanecoorie.
After electing to bat first, Maryborough used all 40 overs to come to a score of 7/169.
New recruit Sam Bartlett paired up with captain Ben Hoban to open the batting for Maryborough and stayed on for a 47-run partnership, before Hoban was dismissed by Darren Hunt for 28 runs. Bartlett then saw Mitch McClure
come and go with just 10 runs, before holding steady alongside Martin Dell for a 20-run partnership.
Bartlett was eventually bowled out by Laane’s Brady Templeton as Maryborough sat just two runs away from 100.
