Maryborough’s history will be celebrated this weekend with a large-scale basketball reunion to be held in town.
As a former Maryborough Hawk himself, event organiser Albert Bandy had started plans for this weekend’s basketball reunion to be a Hawks only affair, but the event has quickly expanded to anyone who played against the Hawks between 1965-2000 who wish to celebrate Maryborough’s rich basketball history.
“We’re after anyone who played against the Hawks men’s side from 1965-2000,” he said.
“I’m sure a fair few players that played back in the 1960s will be there, basketball is a lot more skilful now, I’m sure they’d leave us for dead.
“It’s also a celebration of Bob Osborne and Noel Pollard’s contribution to basketball in Maryborough. They were the two that started basketball off in Maryborough all those years ago.”
