Back-to-back wins kick off Lady Blazers’ season

The pressure was on for the Blazersʼ Claire Blower as she looked for options under the ring during the game with the Gators.

The Maryborough Lady Blazers claimed back-to-back wins in their first games of the 2018-19 season.

Round two saw the Blazers host the Shepparton Lady Gators on Saturday night and the Echuca Pirates on Sunday afternoon after a bye in round one.

Tori Chandler kicked off Maryborough’s score during Saturday’s match with two from two free throws.

Chandler was quickly followed with a two-pointer from first-year Blazer Claire Blower, another from Victoria Country representative Bella Westbrook and young Maggie Tranter.

Though the Gators had a few quick scorers of their own, the Blazers held a 16-11 lead at quarter time.

The second term saw much of the same from Chandler, Westbrook and Tranter and the added shot power of Quetta Holloway-Jinks led the Blazers to a 36-28 halftime score.

The Blazers were able to truly take control of the game in the third, outscoring Shepparton by nine points to extend their lead by 19.
