Talbot Football Netball Club’s senior football side is putting out the call for a “fresh set of eyes” for season 2019 after its two senior coaches stepped down.
Co-coaches Dallas Byars and Matt Smith have been at the helm of Talbot’s side for the last four years.
In that time the side has had four top eight finishes, with a top three placing this year.
It seems the Hawks are on the cusp of the flag they’ve been searching for since their 2001 premiership and Byars said it is tempting to stick around, but the decision to step down was made earlier on in the year.
“We’ve both agreed that it’s the right time. We’re in the process of searching for a new coach,” Byars said.
“We’ve made semi finals and fallen over for the last two years so maybe it’s time for someone else to come in with a fresh set of eyes and help us take that next step.
“The temptation to go back on your word and coach again is always there, especially when we’ve developed a team, finished third this year and it looks like we’re on the upward trajectory.
“We tried to develop the list as best as we could and put a four year plan in place from the outset to try and get ourselves to a point where we were competing for a flag in four year’s time.
“Time is a big factor in us stepping down. The amount of time that goes into being a senior coach these days is quite a lot.”
