Locations surrounding Maryborough will soon be targeted in a planned burning program.
Forest Fire Management Victoria has notified residents via mail leaflets that its spring 2018 planned burning program will focus on four specific areas near Maryborough.
The largest planned burn will be 132 hectares in size at the Maryborough-Station Lane site, 10 kilometres west of Maryborough.
The closest burns to town will be a 20 hectare site at Derby Road, 2.5 km south of Maryborough, and a 23 hectare blaze on Mosquito Track, 4.5 km to the south east.
In the north, 5.52 kilometres from town, a 26 hectare planned burn will be held at Djandak Wi Happy Tommy site.
No dates have been confirmed for when the burns will take place.
Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) Chief Fire Officer Chris Hardman said FFMVic and CFA crews are focused on conducting planned burns in high risk com- munities when weather conditions are suitable.
“Planned burns throughout spring will be small discrete operations that can be undertaken in a one or two-day period, rather than larger burns over a longer period of time,” Mr Hardman said
