The Bendigo Pioneers borrowed some young talent from the Maryborough Football Netball Club to bolster its squad for a surprise final, giving one player his Pioneers debut.
Lachy Bond and Connor O’Shea were added to the list for a wild card round in the 2018 TAC cup finals last month.
The Pioneers had a rough season, finishing last on the TAC cup ladder and went down to the Murray Bushrangers by 27 points during the wild card clash, with Bond named in the best for his debut.
Bond said the match was a “really great experience” and when he got called to the office at school he thought he may have been in trouble before he realised what the call was for.
Both O’Shea and Bond have been key players for MFNC’s senior team this season and have already committed to another year with their home town club despite another rough year of results for the Magpies.
The Bendigo Football Netball League has also taken notice of Bond’s talent and awarded him the league’s rising star award last week.
“It is a real honour to have been named the rising star and especially against such great young talent in the league,” Bond said.
