Town jumps behind Judd

The Maryborough Highland Societyʼs Nick Weaver is one of many helping Judd Stevens raise enough money to compete in jiu jitsu in Ireland at the end of the year.

Ten-year-old jiu jitsu star Judd Stevens is being backed by local businesses to compete in Ireland later this year.

Despite his age, Judd has already competed interstate in Brisbane and Tasmania since he started the sport just three years ago.

In his first overseas venture, Judd will head to the Dublin Open International in December.

Judd trains in Bendigo and Sunbury and mum Shannyn says he “never stops”.

The Maryborough Highland Society is hosting a fundraising night this Friday to help Judd and Shannyn get to Ireland.

Over 20 local businesses have donated items for auction and money to help the Stevens family. The night kicks off at 5.30 pm and Judd will put on a jiu jitsu display followed by a Q&A with his coach.

To attend “A Night for Judd” on Friday, August 17 bookings are essential and can be made by calling the Maryborough Highland Society on 5461-1480.
