Maldon will feature in the 2018 MCDFNL finals series after booking a finals ticket at the 11th hour of the home and away season with a 75-point win over Campbells Creek.
The 15.19 (109) to 5.4 (34) victory was arguably the most predictable piece of the puzzle that needed to fall in place to see the Bombers feature in the post-season and the football gods smiled on the men in red and black, with Avoca and Lexton both losing their respective matches by less than a goal.
Those results meant that Maldon pulled off a last-gasp leap frog manoeuvre, skipping from 10th to eighth and pulling the Dogs and Tigers down the ladder and out of finals contention.
The dramatic finish means Maldon will now meet Trentham this Sunday at Princes Park in the elimination final.
Saturday’s win was the Bombers’ seventh of this season and ticked all the required boxes despite Campbells Creek showing an endeavour that has been lacking for much of 2018.
