Carisbrook has finished on top of the ladder at the end of an MCDFNL season for the first time since 2013, having sealed the 2018 minor premiership with a clinical and unforgiving 67-point win over Navarre.
The Redbacks finalised an ominous premiership defence home and away season with a 15th win, defeating the Grasshoppers 15.13 (103) to 5.6 (36) on Saturday to head into the post season on top of the ladder and on the back of 11 straight victories.
Saturday’s result confirmed a meeting with Harcourt at Princes Park in this coming weekend’s first qualifying final for Carisbrook, while it also consigned Navarre to sixth position on the ladder at season’s end and a meeting with Royal Park in Sunday’s second elimination final.
While a win for Navarre had the potential to elevate the Grasshoppers to fifth place on the final ladder, that result never appeared likely on Saturday with Carisbrook going through its last game of the regular season without ever being seriously challenged.
