Late rally not enough for Rovers as Navarre climb to fifth

Navarreʼs Louis Hannett drives Navarre into attack during the Grasshoppersʼ victory over Maryborough Rovers on Saturday.

Navarre has pulled off a direct ladder position swap with Maryborough Rovers, defeating the Magpies by 29 points in a scrappy contest on Saturday.

The Grasshoppers rose to fifth while Rovers slipped to sixth on the back of the 11.14 (80) to 7.9 (51) result at Jubilee Oval on Saturday.

The first quarter was played at a furious pace and both teams had trouble getting on the scoreboard for the first 10 minutes, until Louis Hannett eventually broke free from his opponent to goal for the Grasshoppers at the 11-minute mark.

Another 10 minutes elapsed before Darcy Bibby outpointed his opponent and kicked long to where Kris Brennan marked in the goal square and posted the Grasshoppers’ second goal for the term.

Two minutes later Aaron Slorach snapped a goal around his body, and Navarre had the upper hand at quarter time, leading by 23 points.

The second quarter was played in the same manner as the opening term, as it took 10 minutes before Sam Kaye goaled for Navarre
