Recently appointed Bendigo Football Netball League manager Cameron Tomlins wants to see the Maryborough Football Netball Club and all other clubs fill every team in every bracket in the 2019 season.
Tomlins stepped on board as BFNL manager in late May and is looking to restore the full quota of teams in the league’s clubs for next season.
“I have spoken with all clubs, including some of the ones who are struggling with the junior teams,” he said.
“We’ve identified a few of the key issues in the different regions, whether it be kids being poached to different leagues, following friends, going to school in bigger cities or leaving their towns.
“A lot of things have already been tried in the past and whether they’ve worked or failed for whatever reason, that’s something I’m trying to get my head around.”
Castlemaine are without an under 18 football side or an A grade netball side. The A grade netball and under 17s competition is also missing teams from Kyneton. However, the Maryborough FNC currently has no junior football sides above under 12s and no A reserve netball side.
Tomlins said that “saturation of teams” is a big issue in Mary-borough and surrounds due to the overlap between the MCDFNL and the BFNL.
